The White Knight - The Batsman forever

Sachin - the name has been a source of inspiration for me and many in this developing country. As one of the commentators today noted 'Nothing is too big for this little man!'.
I had to call him 'The White Knight' ala The Batman Returns because Dravid has been more appropriately 'The Black Knight' of the team. In this case, though, being a white knight is way more tougher because all of his failings have been openly discussed. Sachin the batsman lives on, regardless!!

One of the best articles I have read on my hero here

Timestamp it!

Can't articles on the web carry the date when it was first published? It helps to have the source mentioned too. But the date it was published in IMHO a must. It's especially true for articles related to technology since one does not know how relevant the article in question remains.

Imagine reading an article publised in 1998 today and getting all excited about a new technology that's coming up! Having said that, most of the articles do carry the information, only some don't.

Kidnap - part 2 (Review)

Ok, I watched the movie on the first day at the first show. I was expecting it to be on the lines of 'A wednesday' especially after Imran's comments to the media seemed to suggest that. (BTW, if you have not watched 'A Wednesday', do watch it; you won't be disappointed.) Well, the only similarity with 'A Wednesday' is the genre - this movie is a thriller too. I enjoyed it nevertheless! I won't give you the story line for the obvious reasons. Some of the twists in the movie are predictable, it does not live up to the hype it creates in the first 30 minutes. Imran and Sanjay Dutt have given good performances; well, actually, you can watch the movie only because of these two. The two females leads are, IMHO,complete misfits! I personally like Minissha, but I feel she does not suit the role of Sonia. Oh! one needs to talk about 'cleavage' - one of the prominent characters! :P Do not get me wrong; I am all for the cleavages (:D) but in this movie you get to see cleavages and low-cut costumes in the most inappropriate of situations! Not surprising when you realise that this movie is directed by the same guy who directed the 'Dhoom' series.

Overall, it's a good effort though (better than a movie like 'Singh is kinng')and I would give 3 stars out of 5.

Online diary

I do not find online planners or planner softwares to be useful. They are mostly a bit too intelligent and sometimes come with a few assumptions whic are not valid. I just need a plain online document where I can log my plans. I had been using google docs - the issue with it is it some times takes ages to open up. I realised that all I needed was a simple online diary which I found as the first entry for 'online diary' at google searc - http://my-diary.org

C++ ocean - Part 1

I am trying to understand what the following means! (It's 11 at night and I am not fresh.)

[ Courtesy: http://www.fredosaurus.com/notes-cpp/oop-condestructors/copyconstructors.html ]

Difference between copy constructor and assignment

A copy constructor is used to initialize a newly declared variable from an existing variable. This makes a deep copy like assignment, but it is somewhat simpler:
There is no need to test to see if it is being initialized from itself.
There is no need to clean up (eg, delete) an existing value (there is none).
A reference to itself is not returned.

Kidnap - part1

Well, I have planned to watch the bolly movie 'Kidnap' releasing tommorrow. I have named this post the way I have because I may come back with the review of the movie as well.

I am excited about this movie mainly because it stars Imran. Hmm.. At the risk of sounding 'gay', I will ponder over what I like about this new star on the block. I like how Imran looks, has a touch of Aamir in him. (He, by the way, is not a pure Indian by origin, his father is half British). The director of the movie has made a statement the Imran reminds him of Marlan Brando. I like the confidence he exudes; it was evident even in his first movie! He has a long way to go, though , but he has got age on his side. Apparently, Kidnap was to be released before 'Jaane Tu..'.

Oh yeah! Imran looks like me :D (Ok,so, I may have made this one up)

Great buffet restaurants in bangalore

I came across this Yahoo answers page for restaurants in bangalore which offer food buffet style. **whoa! I am already hungry!**

Selling old books

I have got loads of books piled up in my room which I wanna sell off. I am a book buff, I buy books on impulse most of which I do not read! So, I had gone to Blossom at Church Street to sell the books. After a brief argument I could sell 'some' of the books at 40% of the original price, but I am disappionted though. Most of the books were untouched, and the rest were hardly read.

If any of you know of any other place in Bangalore where I can sell used books, do leave a comment. Thanks! (Yeah, I do have Avenue Road in mind, I should get my lazy ass there some time this week)

Emertxe it is!

After much deliberation, I decided to join Emertxe's embedded course. Let's see how this part of my life unfolds!

Oye Amritsar

Did I tell you that I am a complete foodie? I sooo love food! I had my lunch at Oye Amritsar at M.G.Road, Bangalore. They serve a buffet type lunch.
I liked it! Would highly recommend it for anybody who likes good food.

Check it out at Oye Amritsar!

Some website designs suck

I went to msras to check out their Embedded Systems course. Guys who have designed the website need some lessons in user interface design, I feel!

Doing the impossible!

I am searching for an embedded systems course which can help me start off my almost non-existent career when most of my peers and friends are happily settled in their jobs and married. Hmm.. friends!!

I was surprised when i checked out what cranes has to offer in Realtime OS course.
First, their whole course is tailor made for freshers - in fact, i learnt from one of the prospective students who was waiting outside the premises that cranes sometimes places people in 'Application Development'.
Second, their entire focus when it comes to Embedded programming is on 8051, not on ARM.
I am disappointed, to say the least. But, I might just join the course mainly because of the brand value that cranes offers.

I have been considering Emertxe as another option which, IMO, has a better course overall. I am not too impressed with their placement record though.

Got to decide between them, pretty soon at that.
