Career choices

I spent a good part of last month contemplating about whether the industry where I am struggling hard to make it is actually the one for me. I took a few personality tests online to find out what careers suit me. I looked up my birth chart for any indications for a particular career. I also discussed with some of my friends about what career shift might entail.

Well, I've never had a set of obvious talents to chose from when I decided to take up the career that I am in right now. So, career shift isn't going to be easy. So, what did I decide to do? I realized by the end of introspecting for a couple of weeks that I seem to attach to my job my sense of self-worth a bit more than others do, and that I need to be respected and have very idealistic expectations. I have decided to stick to what I have been doing, try out more enterprising things after I am financially secure.

I am currently reading Po Bronson's 'What should I do with my Life' which contains stories of people who went in pursuit of their ideal profession and destiny. It makes an interesing read!

The Middle Path - Spiritual vs. Material: Part 1

I have been confused when it comes to my values. Sometimes, I feel leading a spiritual life will get me peace and happiness. Other times, I feel material success will give me satisfaction. I go through phases where I swing from one side to another. I tend to philosophize about everything without getting anywhere. I do not understand the difference between what I 'feel' and what I 'think’, I don't know if one is necessarily better than the other.

Lately, it seems that spirituality makes me cynical and far away from reality while being materialistic used to make me anxious and restless. Some people lead their lives merrily without needing to consider these stuff. I envy them!

I think that a middle path exists where I can be fairly ambitious in the material world, but keeping myself grounded by practicing spirituality at the same time.

Evan Almighty

I watched 'Evan Almighty' recently. I never knew that such a movie had released, it had gone unnoticed. And, that's for a good reason. Directed by the same guy who directed 'Bruce Almighty' (which I loved, Jim carrey is something else!) , this movie is not half as good. But, it does have a subtle message of faith, which I could appreciate!

The White Knight - The Batsman forever

Sachin - the name has been a source of inspiration for me and many in this developing country. As one of the commentators today noted 'Nothing is too big for this little man!'.
I had to call him 'The White Knight' ala The Batman Returns because Dravid has been more appropriately 'The Black Knight' of the team. In this case, though, being a white knight is way more tougher because all of his failings have been openly discussed. Sachin the batsman lives on, regardless!!

One of the best articles I have read on my hero here

Timestamp it!

Can't articles on the web carry the date when it was first published? It helps to have the source mentioned too. But the date it was published in IMHO a must. It's especially true for articles related to technology since one does not know how relevant the article in question remains.

Imagine reading an article publised in 1998 today and getting all excited about a new technology that's coming up! Having said that, most of the articles do carry the information, only some don't.

Kidnap - part 2 (Review)

Ok, I watched the movie on the first day at the first show. I was expecting it to be on the lines of 'A wednesday' especially after Imran's comments to the media seemed to suggest that. (BTW, if you have not watched 'A Wednesday', do watch it; you won't be disappointed.) Well, the only similarity with 'A Wednesday' is the genre - this movie is a thriller too. I enjoyed it nevertheless! I won't give you the story line for the obvious reasons. Some of the twists in the movie are predictable, it does not live up to the hype it creates in the first 30 minutes. Imran and Sanjay Dutt have given good performances; well, actually, you can watch the movie only because of these two. The two females leads are, IMHO,complete misfits! I personally like Minissha, but I feel she does not suit the role of Sonia. Oh! one needs to talk about 'cleavage' - one of the prominent characters! :P Do not get me wrong; I am all for the cleavages (:D) but in this movie you get to see cleavages and low-cut costumes in the most inappropriate of situations! Not surprising when you realise that this movie is directed by the same guy who directed the 'Dhoom' series.

Overall, it's a good effort though (better than a movie like 'Singh is kinng')and I would give 3 stars out of 5.
